Once those pictures are in My Photo Stream, I can do whatever I want and choose which photos I want to keep on my laptop and iPhone while still syncing everything to my desktop and Dropbox. But with My Photo Stream, every device I have connected to my iCloud account gets every new picture I take.

I only sync my Dropbox photo library with one Mac and NOT ON ANY OTHER MAC. Putting my photo library on Dropbox allows me to access it from any machine anywhere in the world if I ever need to. Why not just leave the library on my desktop Mac?īecause then I can only access it from my desktop Mac.

Even if you optimize the photos to save storage, this can become a problem with lots of pictures and only 8GB of storage on your iPhone. Every picture you have in iCloud Photo Library must be on every device.Why I do not like using iCloud Photo Library (even though I love Apple usually): You could throw an iPad into the mix without any trouble.
I use one main desktop, one laptop, and an iPhone. Managing photos is a difficult process no matter what solution you find, but there may be other people that have a similar situation to mine. Sean M - Thank you for the clarification.
